the factory door. The Lactos Cheese Tasting & Sales
Centre is open from Monday to Friday, 9.00am to
5.00pm (excluding Good Friday, Christmas Day and
Boxing Day). Weekends and Public Holidays open from
10.00am to 4.00pm. All cheese tastings finish 30
minutes prior to closing.

Pioneer Village Museum
A treasure trove of almost 20,000 articles
depicting the turn of the century, when Burnie was
in the height of its first economic boom. Open
daily (excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Good
Friday), Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Creative Paper Tasmania
The Creative Paper Tasmania is located in a
renovated Australian Paper building, just minutes
from the Burnie CBD. A team of talented staff make
beautiful handmade paper and paper gifts, with
traditional, age old methods. The Mill is open to
visitors from 9.00am to 4.00pm 7 days a week
and tours operate at 10.00am, 12.00pm and 2:30pm
daily. Adults $10.00, Children $6.00, Concession
$8.00, Family $28.00.

Emu Valley Rhododendron Gardens
Set in a natural amphitheatre, this 13ha site
features over 15,000 rhododendrons and their
companion plants. This tranquil garden has
significant water features and a tea room. Open
daily from August to February (excluding Christmas

Guide Falls Alpaca Park
Located near Guide Falls at Ridgley, the

Facts about Burnie
When Burnie wasn't Burnie. Emu Bay was established
by the Van Diemen's Land Co. in 1827 and renamed
Burnie in the early 1840's after the Van
Diemen's Land Co Director William Burnie And the
first permanent settlers arrived from England in the
vessel "Caroline" on February 2, 1828 .

steps.
